3 Plumbing Problems to Watch for This Holiday Season
admin • November 30, 2015

Thanksgiving is past and Christmas is on its way, which means you have a lot more to worry about than plumbing problems in your Olympia, WA home. Unfortunately, plumbing problems have a way of springing up when you least expect them to, and the last thing you want is to have to call a plumber in when you’re entertaining friends and family. By keeping an eye out for potential plumbing problems, you can avoid those circumstances and make your get-together a memorable one for all the right reasons. Here are 3 plumbing problems to watch for this holiday season.

1.    Frozen Pipes

Frozen pipes can be devastating. Ice expands and if your pipes become frozen, there’s apt to be a breach as it expands out of the pipes themselves. You can combat this by draining the pipes in all parts of the home you aren’t using, especially the outside. Turn off the water to your home and turn on all the faucets to drain the water out of the pipes, then refrain from using the plumbing in any part of the home that isn’t necessary.

2.    Clogged Drains

All those rich meals can lead to clogs and back-ups in your kitchen pipes, or even necessitate a repair session for a damaged garbage disposal. Avoid tossing meat bones, fruit pits, vegetable peelings or pasta down the drain. Hey can all cause problems if you let them.

3.    Water Heater Issues

If you’re having guests over for the holidays, your water heater is apt to see a lot of additional use. If a burgeoning problem is lying in wait, that’s the exact time when it usually strikes. Head it off by scheduling a water heater maintenance session from a trained plumber well before your guests arrive.
