admin • February 15, 2016

Plumbing clogs are a regular occurrence and if you’re a homeowner in Olympia, WA, chances are you’re going to encounter one sooner or later. Corrosion and rust, while less common, still happen reasonably frequently, and often require replacement services to fix them. It used to be that such problems we catch-as-catch can issues, with plumbers making educated guesses and diligently applying methods to solve them until something worked. But times have changed and so too has the tools used to combat common problems like corrosion and clogging. That’s where video pipe inspection comes in. What is it, and why does it matter? We have a few answers below.

Miniature Cameras

Chances are you have a video camera on your phone that lets you shoot movies on a whim. That camera is small enough to fit down most plumbing pipes, and with a little modification, the technology can be used to examine plumbing pipes, drain lines and sewer lines with an unprecedented amount of accuracy. The plumber simples sends the camera down on a line, connected to a data pad that stays in his hand. The line contains a light as well as a camera, and controls allow the plumber to shift the perspective to look at any section he or she wishes.

The Benefits

The main benefits of video pipe inspection lie in the unprecedented accuracy it allows. By getting a close look at the clog, the plumber can determine the best tool to break it up, then double-check afterwards to make sure it’s all gone. The same holds true for corrosion: the pipe lets the plumber accurately determine the extent of the damage, allowing him or her to make repairs more quickly and to ensure that all the trouble spots are addressed.
