Sump Pumps
A leaky basement is a common problem, especially for those that live in older homes and in areas prone to flooding. Whatever your situation, when you find yourself faced with this problem, you need it fixed fast. The best way to prevent this issue in the first place or deal with it once it’s started, is to have a sump pump installed. These surprisingly simple devices are capable of removing large volumes of water from a below–ground surface automatically, keeping your home and its contents safe from water damage. However, they need to be properly installed and maintained if you want them to work when they are needed most.
Whether you’re looking to prevent the potential for flooding in your basement or you’re already faced with an emergency, call Brooks Plumbing to have a sump pump installed right away. We’ve been installing and servicing sump pumps in the Olympia, WA area for years and we’re always available to help another one of our neighbors prevent any unnecessary water damage to their home and belongings.
Submersible & Pedestal Sump Pumps
There are two kinds of sump pumps, but they both do the same thing (albeit in different ways). The first kind of sump pump is an above ground sump pump, which sits on a pedestal. It has a switch that is placed in a pit and will turn on when enough water fills the pit.
These devices are preferred in some instances because they are easier to access for maintenance. However, they don’t always have the same capacity as the second type.
This second type of sump pump is known as a submersible sump pump, which itself is placed in the pit. When the water reaches a certain level a switch on the sump pump flips and the device turns on. While maintenance is not as simple, and is recommended more frequently to ensure the device stays clean of any mud or debris, submersible pumps are more efficient at removing water than their pedestal counterparts.
Regardless of which option you choose, the bottom line is that a sump pump will keep your home safe from rising water during heavy storms or drawn–out rainy seasons.
Calling for Professional Help
While sump pumps are relatively simple pieces of equipment, they require professional installation for multiple reasons. We need to find the perfect location to place the sump pump to ensure it is as efficient as possible. We also need to be sure the pump is properly installed and set up to kick in when it’s needed, especially if it is submersible.
Improperly installed sump pumps are not only prone to breakdowns; they don’t work as well in the first place.
